Several residents enquired about ground squirrels and gophers. Here are the recommendations and information received on that topic so far:

• Do a Google search for "CA ground squirrel pest control company santa clara county". Choose one with enough good reviews.

• One neighbor used "Got Gophers" and had good results for gophers.

• Another recommended Smith's Pest Management .

• This time of year (late summer/early fall), fumigation for ground squirrels will be less effective because the ground is so dry (so it's hard to reach a lethal concentration of gas within the burrows). Recommend waiting until winter to fumigate. Right now, trapping would be the best option for a homeowner, and it can be effective for small to medium populations. Not sure how many companies use Co2, and with the distance-to-building restrictions for CO machines (due to toxicity), trapping may make the most sense for many property owners. • Starting Nov/Dec, people should see lower ground squirrel activity because many will hibernate (assuming it's not an unusually mild winter). NOTHING is effective when they are hibernating—they seal themselves off within the burrow system so you can pump as much toxic gas down their burrows and it won't do anything. They will be active again around January.
