ABOUT

THE GREATEST ZONING ATTACK EVER TO CONFRONT OUR TOWN!

What Happened In Sonoma – Lessons for Los Altos Hills

Los Altos Hills is facing new housing density requirements (imposed by Sacramento, and referred to by the bureaucrats as “Regional Housing Need Allocations” or RHNA)

These threaten the "open space natural environment" that defines our town – which is the very reason we chose to live here in the first place.

Density mandates that are imposed by a central State Bureaucracy - with total disregard for local conditions - ignore the existing infrastructure that formed the bedrock of the initial planning, and ongoing evolution, of our town.

Havoc ensues when prior careful long-range planning is overridden by rubber-stamp central edict. Loss of contol over local planning, that was originaly driven by region-specific knowledge and sensitivity, will impact areas as diverse as:

  • Fire Safety – especially in an area declared as Wildland Urban Interface

  • Seismic Safety – especially in an area riddled with a web of faults, from minor to world-famous

  • Disaster Response – an inevitable life-threatening need, subsequent to events of this kind

  • Overload of Public Utilities (including sewer lines and electric utilities designed to support a maximum area density of one family per acre-lot)

  • Town Amenities, School and Public Transit facilities

  • Permitted compatible land uses

  • Traffic planning on narrow, winding, steep roads

Learn how one Sonoma community is fighting back.
Los Altos Hills can, too!
