Agenda Highlights

This is the 2nd (and final) reading of the proposed Fire Hazard Severity Zone (FHSZ) ordinance to adopt the STATE Fire Hazard Severity Zone map (aka the Cal Fire map). This item has drawn considerable public interest due to its potential impact on properties in town.

ITEM 2. CONSENT CALENDAR

A. Waive Reading and Adopt an Ordinance of the City Town of Los Altos Hills
Designating Fire Hazard Safety Zones Pursuant to Government Code Section 51179
based on the CalFire Maps (Staff: J. Bradford)
- Waive Reading and Adopt the Ordinance

[NOTE: This item is on the Consent Calendar.]

A town ordinance requires to be read and voted on at two meetings at least 5 days apart.

The first reading of the FHSZ map ordinance was on May 15, 2025. At that meeting the Council voted 3-1 to adopt a
Town-generated fire hazard map instead of the State Map recommended by the State Fire Marshall. Following considerable public comment and concern, the vote was not affirmed on June 18, 2025. Instead, the Council elected to call another meeting on June 20, 2024, to introduce an ordinance to adopt the State Map. The motion was approved at that meeting.

This meeting is the second (and possibly final) meeting to confirm and adopt the ordinance approving the State Map. It should be a formality as the state mandated deadline to adopt a map is June 24, 2025.
